Chuck Hagel: "Not An Option"

With news reports suggesting former Senator Chuck Hagel may be nominated for the job of Secretary of Defense, today the Emergency Committee for Israel released "Not An Option," a 30-second TV ad that highlights Hagel's troubling record on Iran.

The ad recounts Hagel's numerous votes against sanctions, his opposition to designating the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps a terrorist organization, and his view that there is no "viable" military option for preventing a nuclear Iran -- in contrast to President Obama, who insists all options remain on the table.

The ad will air on cable this Thursday and Friday throughout the Washington DC area.

Why do you not just admit that you represent Bibi, the Likud and the right-wing Israeli point of view? You are afraid that Chuck Hagel will not support Israel in invading Iran and that, even worse, he may cut some of the ridiculous amount of foreign aid we give Israel each year.

I agree with Dunk Klint. Even the Israeli military says that a military strike on Iran would not significantly hinder their nuclear program, and may have devastating consequences for Israel and the U.S. How can Hagel’s position on this issue be extreme when it coincides with the IDF?

While I’m at it, how does settlement building on the West Bank increase Israel’s security?

I do agree with the belief your group is extreme!! We certainly hope Mr. Hagel will be confirmed, since we need to communicate with ALL SIDES, just as the former President Jimmy Carter believes/promotes; one sided communications/support has up to now never worked; and will not work. We Americans are supporters of both sides, without an extremist view! As it is, we have enough of closed minds in congress.
